Some Interesting Background Info About The Start Of This Blog

I want to let all my loyal readers know the steps that I went through to get to this important milestone of having the most talked about blog in blogosphere. This is really for myself so I could document how long it took until various things happened with this blog i.e. indexed by google, alexa rank, and so on.

So here goes.

This name for this blog is going to be a post in its own right for two reasons. 1. I think its interesting how this name got chosen so I am going to tell everyone. 2. It gives me another post to write. You got to post frequently to build up a blog and get tons and tons of traffic.

I registered zilliondollarblogger.com through 1&1.com on Wednesday afternoon on March 26. The domain name was ready until Thursday at which time I transferred the site over to my web hosting’s DNS servers. The updating process took another several hours until I was able access the site.

Then on Friday morning I was finally able to install an older version of Wordpress using my hosting providers auto installer tool.
I love these tools. It takes literally seconds to install wordpress using this tool. Once Wordpress was installed I was able to import the current theme (at the time of this post - brightside) and start making all the minor changes to get into to the basic working level. The first post went up on March 28.

So here we are. How is everyone feeling today?

Current Theme For This Blog

At the time of this post I have the Brightside wordpress theme. As I mentioned in my about page I think having a good theme is important for SEO purposes. I have used this theme in the past with other blogs and I have seen very impressive results. However, the posts on my other blogs were submitted to blog carnivals and have a whole bunch of links. Also someone stumbled upon one of my posts and that resulted in over 16,000 hits from Stumble Upon. So I could be wrong about this whole theme spiel.

How Bloggers Get Into Blogging For Money

So before I start blogging about my future success, I want to write about the blog that started it all.

Stevepavlina.com is the blog that many people including myself have stumbled upon (no pun intended. if you dont know what I am talking about then forget it) that got them into blogging. I am speaking specifically of his post on making money titled “How to make money from your blog”. I think people like me misunderstood the title of the post. The title says ‘How to make money from YOUR blog’ not from ‘A blog’. There is a difference here. In other words, you should first have a blog and then monetize it. However, if you dont already have a successful blog then starting for the sole purpose of making money will probably get you nowhere. The thing that gets me with his post is that he says in the beginning that he makes $1000 a day from his blog and stats on another page showed that in three months his blog jumped to around 80,000 visitors a month. Show a blog that could generate that amount of traffic in such a short period of time. I have a few blogs for over a year now and none of them are anywhere that amount. He recommends submitting to blog carnivals but nowadays that doesnt really help to generate traffic. The truth is when he launched his blog in 2004 blogging was still a new concept. Problogger.net only came on scene in 2005. Also, personal development blogs do better with traffic than many other blogs. But many people who read his post thought “wow I could make lots of money with a blog. I could definitely do a better job than he did”

So many people started blogs and realized its not that simple at all. Steve Pavlina writes in his post that 99% of people will fail at making serious income from their blog. I think the number is probably more like 99.998% of bloggers who fail at making serious income from their blog. Well enough said. Let’s go blogging.

Launch post

This is a launch post as in the first post on this blog hence the title launch post. ok well I guess thats it for now. Oh wait this is one of those posts used to test the permalink structure in wordpress to see if I took care of everything ok. Why is it that with every new blog you need to install a whole slew of plugins and make all sorts of modifications? Why doesnt wordpress default with the normal permalink structure i.e. /%postname%/?

I actually really like wordpress and I commend these fine gentle people for creating free software and useful software and this is why they are on my sidebar.
